FLEETING MOMENTS

Let’s pretend

for one moment

that this is real,

that it’s more than a fleeting moment of lust,

more than me losing myself

and forgetting how fucked up I am.

Let’s pretend

that I won’t feel empty or lonely or self-loathing

when you leave me.

Because you will leave me.

I won’t give you a reason to stay

and you won’t relish the idea

of fighting my demons

and slicing your flesh on my broken pieces.

But let’s pretend

for this night that we’re in love

that you want me more

than anyone else in the world.

I just…I just need to feel something

even if it isn’t forever.

So for this night

until the sun rises and the moment ends

Please—I’m begging you—let’s pretend.
